What does your organization do?
We are a nonprofit organization that provides essential services and support to the elderly. Our mission is to help them maintain their quality of life and their independence.
Who is eligible to receive services?
Generally, services are available to those who live in the Evangaline Parish area who are 60 years of age or older. Some of our programs have specific eligibility requirements.
What areas do you serve?
We proudly serve the entire area of Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. While we have our main center in Ville Platte, we operate other centers and routes throughout the community.
Are there any fees for the services you provide?
Many of our core services are offered at no direct cost to eligible seniors. We often suggest a voluntary contribution to help us sustain our programs, but no one is denied service due to an inability to contribute.
How is your nonprofit funded?
We receive funding from a combination of federal and state grants, private donations, fundraising events, and voluntary contributions from the seniors we serve.
Can a family or caregiver enroll a senior for services?
Yes! Family members, friends, or caregivers are encouraged to call us and help with the enrollment process for their loved one.
How do I become a volunteer?
We rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers. Please call us and ask us to speak with our Executive Director. We are always looking for help with activities, meal delivery, and more.
What types of nutrition services do you offer?
Our primary nutrition services include congregate meals, which are served at our centers, and our home delivered meal program, often referred to as “Meals on Wheels.”
How do I qualify for home delivered meals?
Eligibility for home delivered meals is based on a needs assessment that confirms the senior is homebound and unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves. Please contact us to schedule an assessment.
Do you provide transportation services?
Yes! We offer door-to-door transportation for eligible seniors. We offer these primarily for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and visits to our senior centers.
How far in advance do I need to schedule transportation?
We highly recommend calling to schedule our transportation services at least 48 hours in advance. This helps us plan our routes and ensure we can accommodate your needs.
What kind of support services are available for seniors at home?
We offer homemaker services, which can include light housekeeping, laundry, and essential errands to help seniors maintain a clean and safe living environment.
What kinds of activities take place at the senior centers?
Our centers host a variety of different activities. These include educational speakers, health and wellness programs, games, arts and crafts, and social events.
Is there a cost to participate in senior center activities?
Most activities at our senior centers are available at no charge. We encourage seniors to come and socialize, learn, and have fun. We do accept contributions to cover the cost of art/craft supplies and prizes for games.
Where can I find a calendar of events?
Our monthly schedule of activities and special events is typically available at our centers. We also post our calendar on our main website, and you can request more information by calling our Senior Center.
